Ryou doesn't respond as immediately this time. It's not Riley's fault or anything, she's right to have said what she said. But it still shakes Ryou to remember the parasites...and how Atem had behaved as a nephilim.

Mostly though...he doesn't want to think about the parasites. He doesn't want to think about trying to claw it forcibly out of Atem, and having it nearly try to embed itself into him instead.

He doesn't like thinking about the emptiness he felt after falling into Atem's death and having his capacity to feel stripped away. So...it takes him a minute.]

The second time being taken over by something like that was worse than the first. More relationships to play on, more emotions to manipulate. How the hydra shoveled her away into the corner of her own mind, until it needed her to funnel the pain from Mukuro's claws into its host. Steve in the car. Atem in her apartment. Frantically clawing at the hardwood, begging him to wake up, to listen to her.

It's left her wary. And she can never let herself forget that wariness. ]

No...not her. She was very much like Atem, and they came to an understanding that whoever made it past the end of the week kept their life. She just didn't believe she wasn't real, but it didn't make her hurt Atem, or me.

She even...punished my copy for what he did to me.

[Ryou just wishes that he hadn't absorbed the memories of that death. It felt like he'd been the one who had been decapitated.]

[ Punished...? Like Atem. Like what Atem would do himself.

Guilt sits like a hot rock in her gut. ]

I guess Atem got lucky. Not a lot of doubles out there who weren't acting like jerks.

I hope we never have to see another copy ever again. Who knows how long I'll be reversing all the damage mine's done. With people, with possessions, all of it.

[He wants to sympathize with Riley, but he also doesn't want to get further into her business...so he tries not to ask any rude questions.]

[ Sympathy would be great, in some ways. To commiserate— misery loves company, isn't that the saying? But, she also thinks if she keeps dwelling it'll weigh her down like an anchor. And, as a phoenix, she needs to fly. ]
